Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES –

The Instructional Designer will assist with the development of asynchronous, chunked, self-paced, multi-media solutions published for online consumption. This individual will ensure quality assurance of final published products for delivery to end users. This position will work closely with Director of Education to ensure accuracy of content, design and deployment, as well work with other team members as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Develops online modules that specify measurable learning objectives.
  • Participates and actively support multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Promotes innovation in the use of e-Learning/ILT to benefit learning, teaching and research
  • Publishes modules in appropriate multi-media formats using designated authorware
  • Develops evaluation questions to support learning objectives
  • Works with various clients, SMEs, trainers and other instructional designers in the continued development of the corporate vision of maximizing e-Learning.
  • Coordination of projects, tracking and reporting on project status, teamwork, leadership, innovation and delivery of consistent, quality products within established timelines.
  • Manages the production of high quality video, multi-media, and graphic materials to support the delivery of instruction and services. Collaborates with staff and clients to plan, script, and deliver instructionally and aesthetically sound media productions.
  • Develop course materials, instructor guides, participant guides, course assessments, job aids, etc.
  • Ensure that all educational content is consistent, easy to understand, and well organized.
  • Maintains working area and equipment in accordance with environmental and safety regulation
  • Maintains confidentiality with all company and regulatory information.
  • Practices and adheres to the Company’s “Code of Conduct” philosophy and “Mission and Value Statement.”
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES – This position requires the following minimal requirements:

  • Ability to learn software applications and process flows quickly
  • Working knowledge of Instructional Design strategy
  • Demonstrated ability to apply basic learning theories to design and development of online modules
  • Ability to develop evaluation questions to support learning objectives
  • Familiarity with using Learning Management Systems.
  • Expert level command of common authoring tools and course development methodologies. (Captivate, Microsoft PowerPoint, Word experience preferred)
  • Familiarity with a wide array of training concepts, practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of SCORM compliance
  • Knowledge of 508 compliance
  • Ability to communicate and execute clear, consistent and applicable learning experiences aligned to organizational goals. - Excellent project management skills – a must.
  • Attention to detail and follow-through critical.
  • Excellent oral communication, presentation, writing and editing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to influence laterally and vertically.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and peers to deliver business results.
  • Solid problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple projects on tight deadlines and prioritize appropriately.
  • Video, multi-media, and graphic material production principles and practices.
  • High quality, standard-based online course design and development.
  • Project management - uses tools and processes to identify and communicate project goals, schedules, responsibilities, progress and performance
  • PC Skills – demonstrates strong proficiency in Microsoft applications including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint; experience in using web-based development and authoring products such as learning management systems, Adobe Captivate, SnagIT
  • Advanced development skills in Adobe Captivate 7 (preferred, V6 at minimum)

EDUCATION –

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred, equivalent work experience may substitute degree requirement

EXPERIENCE –

  • Minimum of 1 – 3 years designing and developing web-based interactive courseware for adult learners
  • Healthcare background preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Position requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Position requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing, verbal communication and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriately to perform job responsibilities. Requires ability to fly on airplanes, be properly licensed and able to rent and drive an automobile, and work in diverse office settings. Minimum (<10%) travel will be required. Work will be stressful at times. Contact may involve dealing with angry or upset people.
